Welcome to the Lasernut Racing 2017 King of The Hammers Race report! As usual every year the KOH race brings more spectators and even more innovative race rigs. What started out as a bet between friends had turned into one of the biggest off-road races in the world! Team Lasernut Racing had put a ton of time in prepping and testing for this race, as they do every year. Any successful team knows that organization and preparation are half the battle when it comes to race week. The team worked extra hard this year to be fully prepared for the brutal trails they would have to endure during the race. Here’s how the week went for us.
Rock slayer Bryan Maloney got the week started off right for the Lasernut team by taking 2nd place by the smallest of margins in the now world famous “Backdoor Shootout”. If any of you have seen this obstacle in person, you know it is no joke.
Brandon Heyes represented Lasernut Racing again in the “Everyman Challenge” this year. Brandon had a great showing with a 15th place overall, finishing in just over 7 hours total.
Cody Waggoner and Stuart Crawford were in charge of the Unlimited Class duties for the 3rd year in a row. Every year they have set realistic goals, and they have achieved them all but one year. Last year the team did not finish the race due to technical issues. This year they had big plans to redeem themselves, and they did just that. A few shots of Cody and Stuart’s qualifying run. The guys ended up in the top 30 when all the dust settled.
After qualifying in the top 30, their next objective was to finish the race in the top 10. One of the key factors to this strategy was their ability to run the whole race with only one fuel stop in the main pit area. The weather was perfect on race morning with skies clearing and temperatures rising. A few shots from the race.

Dropping into backdoor.
The long road ahead….
Slow and steady is the proper game plan.
Pulling in the the one and only pit stop the entire race. Got gas?
Coming across the finish line in just under 8 hours and finishing in 8th place overall! No flats, no winching, no mechanical issues, and a well rested co-driver.
Cody and Stuart enjoy a water break while being interviewed by NBC before heading up on stage for the webcast interview.
Heading up on stage.
All in all, Lasernut racing had another successful week at King of The Hammers. The road to get here is always long and pain staking, but when you achieve your goals all the work is well worth it. Thanks again to our family and friends that helped us along the way!
